Meeting point: Bergisel Ski Jump
Maggie was accompanied throughout the day by none other than Toni Innauer – Austrian ski jumper, Olympic champion and author.
The two meet for an initial chat and coffee above the rooftops of Innsbruck in the Sky Restaurant of the Bergisel Ski Jump and enjoy panoramic views of the Inn Valley, which is slowly awakening under the winter sun.
Challenge #1
… and the time arrives for Maggie’s first challenge. She’s going to need nerves of steel right now!
Dressed in a ski jumping suit, she heads out into the fresh mountain air and onto the “trembling beam.” Yes, you read that right: This is the launch bar from where the ski jumping stars hurtle themselves into the air at the annual Four Hills Tournament. This is no place for vertigo sufferers and the 400 m to the end of the hill suddenly look much more formidable than they do on TV. The trembling beam is where ski jumpers prepare themselves for their jump.
Maggie dares to climb out onto the beam (secured, of course) and can pick Toni’s brains on his ski jumping secrets.
Tip: Do you also want to try out the trembling beam? Then look no further than Convention Tirol’s partner Bergisel.
And what a proper take-off and jump really looks like for a professional is demonstrated by Tirolean ski jumpers Martin Nagiller and Thomas Ortner.
